THIS PACKAGE IS COMPLETED ONLINE
Maybe you or someone you know is struggling with substance abuse? Have you noticed that your or their habits have increased and are impacting on their everyday life, work, or relationships?
If you’re unsure whether you’re ready for counselling or even if it is the right move, our Substance Abuse Screener can provide an early and valuable insight into the nature of your or another’s problem.
This substance abuse screener will assess the severity of habits and provide recommendations for future support.
It can help identify:
- The underlying motivation for the abuse.
- The impact it is having on various aspects of life (relationships, work and finances).
- The need for change and specific areas to focus on.
- Realistic goals and milestones to support overcoming substance abuse.
An addiction can be costly and acquiring the substance is often put ahead of important expenses such as food, rent, healthcare or bills.
What are the benefits?
Dealing with your problems early can help avoid:
- Loss of your partners, friends, and family.
- Loss of your career and work prospects.
- Loss of the respect of your work mates.
- Financial problems and costly healthcare expenses.
- Risk taking and potential dire accidents to yourself and others.
The first step is admitting that you may have a problem, and Psychology Melbourne’s Substance Abuse Check can help you do this.
What is included in the Substance Abuse Screener?
The online Substance Abuse Screener is conducted by one of our experienced psychologists with specific experience in substance abuse. The psychologists who conduct this screening are clinical and endorsed and general psychologists.
You will be sent a battery of online psychological tests before your session to fill in under strict test conditions.
The Screener includes:
- A 50-min online clinical consultation.
- Up to 4 screening tests to help diagnose the problem.
- Recommendations for further testing or support needs.
How does it work?
Once you have purchased the Substance Abuse Screener, reception will contact you to arrange an appointment time. Prior to your consultation, you will be sent some forms to fill in as well as up to 4 online screening tests, which will automatically be sent back to us once completed.
Your psychologist will review the test results prior to your session.
During your session they will:
- Take a full clinical history.
- Give you feedback on your test results.
- Make recommendations for future treatment such as further testing or suggest other support needs.
Online Testing
You will be sent several online tests during the assessment process that have between 20 – 50 multiple choice questions. They are easy to fill in, but it is important that you follow our test conditions to get the most accurate results.
How to follow test conditions
- Complete every question!
- Concentrate and complete the forms in one sitting.
- Fill them in alone – you can share later.
- Do not be distracted by watching TV or talking to anyone else.
- Be honest as this will help with your diagnosis.
If you have any questions of concerns about these forms, you can speak to the Reception team on 1300 161 639, email us on assessments@psychologymelbourne.com.au or use the chat box on our website.
