The purpose of this group is to provide affordable psychological support and coaching to individuals who have been diagnosed with ADHD.

Over 1 million people in Australia struggle with symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). ADHD is classified as a neurodevelopmental disorder and symptoms include difficulties with attention and/or hyperactivity and impulsivity.

The precise causes of ADHD are not clear; however, research and anecdotal evidence suggests that ADHD often runs in families and there are multiple factors that make a person more likely to develop the condition. In comparison to males, females are often under-diagnosed and more likely to receive an incorrect diagnosis of anxiety or depressive disorder.

By attending this 4-session online Living with ADHD group, you will gain confidence and understanding about how your brain works and develop new ways to manage your ADHD symptoms. You will also receive useful handouts and resources to help with this.

Topics Covered:

  • Understanding the symptoms of ADHD and learning acceptance that this is a lifelong condition that can be well-managed
  • Identifying common difficulties such as: maintaining focus, switching attention, regulating emotions, accurately perceiving time and initiating tasks that are not engaging
  • Identifying and building on existing strengths and implementing strategies to work around difficulties
  • Implementing new strategies including:
    • Lifestyle changes (sleep, diet, exercise)
    • Establishing a healthy routine
    • Organisation and planning strategies
    • Managing distractibility
    • Addressing procrastination

How does the group work?

The online Living with ADHD group is led by an experienced general psychologist with expertise in group training. You will be working online with 8–12 people, with similar concerns for 4 sessions on a weekly basis. Handouts and videos are provided at each session.

Once you have booked in, you will be sent several forms to fill in that will assess whether the group is the right one for you. If you have any questions of concerns about these forms, you can speak to the Reception team on 1300 161 639 or email us on info@psychologymelbourne.com.au.

The online Living with ADHD package covers all 4 sessions at a cost of $300. Medicare rebate of $23.80 may be applicable per session, with a valid mental health care plan and in telehealth eligible areas. Please check with our Reception team. You can use Afterpay for the initial cost and then your rebate will be sent after each session attended to your nominated bank account.

Medicare rebates may apply for 10 group sessions per calendar year (in addition to the 10 counselling sessions) with a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP.
