Comprehensive EMDR Therapy Assessment - Costs, Process & Benefits

THIS ASSESSMENT CAN BE COMPLETED ONLINE OR IN PERSON

Cost: $780 (for 3 sessions). Rebate of $145.95 applicable per session, with a valid mental health care plan.

EMDR therapy is a highly effective mental health technique for dealing with PTSD. It based on the adaptive information processing model using bilateral stimulation - usually visually by moving one’s eyes in a specific way - to create new neural connections in the brain.

You can purchase the EMDR Assessment if you are unsure of whether to undertake the full EMDR therapy treatment, which is an eight-phase program for treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

The EMDR Assessment includes online screening tests and three 1-hour consultations with a psychologist trained in EMDR. It covers the first three phases (3) of EMDR Therapy:

  • Phase 1: Review of online screening tests and history-taking
  • Phase 2: Preparing the client.
  • Phase 3: Assessing the target memory.

The EMDR Reprocessing is a separate program that covers the remaining five (5) phases of EMDR therapy, including:

  • Phases 4-7: Processing the memory to adaptive resolution.
  • Phase 8: Evaluating treatment results.

Important Information About EMDR Assessment:

- Extra sessions to Stage 1 or Stage 2 may be required by the psychologist depending on your progress
- Both programs are delivered by one of our clinical psychologists, either online or face-to-face.
- Once you have purchased an assessment, you will be contacted by Reception to set up your appointments.

What is EMDR Therapy and How Does it Work?

EMDR therapy is a highly effective mental health technique for dealing with PTSD. It based on the adaptive information processing model using bilateral stimulation - usually visually by moving one’s eyes in a specific way - to create new neural connections in the brain.

It can be an alternative treatment to some psychiatric medications, and does not include extended exposure to the distressing memories or detailed descriptions of the trauma.

EMDR therapy is also effective in treating disorders such as OCD, chronic pain and other distressing life experiences such as:

  • child abuse, sexual abuse, and rape
  • self-harming behaviours in response to a trauma
  • occupational stress such as for police officers and military personnel
  • substance misuse, such as excess drinking or drug use
