Our Autism Group is designed to support adults diagnosed with Autism in recognising and harnessing their unique strengths, while also developing strategies to manage challenges.
The group provides a space to understand and celebrate the strengths of Autism. Participants will explore how to leverage these strengths and acquire new skills to navigate everyday challenges more effectively.
Autism is often viewed through the lens of its challenges. However many autistic individuals possess unique abilities and perspectives. This group focuses on identifying and using these strengths, alongside learning new behaviours and skills to manage personal and social challenges.
Who Should Attend this Group?
This group is ideal for autistic individuals experiencing:
- Feelings of being overwhelmed or stuck, or alone
- Challenges managing stress and anxiety
- Difficulty with social interactions and reading social cues
- Struggles with making friends and maintaining relationships
- Challenges adapting to changes and transitions
What will people gain and learn from this Group?
Participants with autism will learn how to:
- Enhance self-confidence and self-esteem
- A deeper understanding of her/his own strengths, abilities, and interests
- A supportive environment to exchange ideas and learn from others in a safe environment
- Practical strategies to improve communication and manage stress and anxiety
- Opportunities to practice new skills within the group setting

By participating in this 4-session online Autism Group, you will gain confidence and understanding about how your brain works and develop new ways to utilise your strengths and manage your challenges. You will also receive useful handouts and resources to help with this.
How does the Group work?
The online Autism Group is led by an experienced general psychologist with expertise in Autism and group training. You will be working online with 8–12 people, with similar concerns for 4 sessions on a weekly basis. Handouts and videos are provided at each session.
Once you have booked in, you will be sent several forms to fill in that will assess whether the group is the right one for you. If you have any questions of concerns about these forms, you can speak to the Reception team on 1300 161 639 or email us on info@psychologymelbourne.com.au.
The online Autism Group package covers all 4 sessions at a cost of $300. Medicare group rebate of $23.80 may be applicable per session, with a valid mental health care plan and in telehealth eligible areas. Please check with our Reception team. You can use Afterpay for the initial cost and then your rebate if applicable will be sent after each session attended to your nominated bank account.
About the Group Leader, Magdalene Sng
Magdalene is a registered psychologist, who is bilingual in English and Mandarin and speaks two other Chinese dialects. She has facilitated various groups and workshops from youth to elder adults in the last 20 years in schools, community settings and organizations. Her goal is to help clients understand their challenges in life and develop strategies to support and overcome them.
Qualifications
- Years in Practice: Counsellor - 11 years, Provisional Psychologist 5.5 years, Registered Psychologist 0.5 years (total 17 years)
- Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology, Murdoch University
- Master’s in counselling, Monash University
